Do you remember life before Facebook? Sometimes it’s hard to believe we existed without social media. How on earth did we all stay in touch?
Facebook has made the world a smaller place. In the past, it was the fortunate few who were able to get to know other peoples and cultures firsthand. They could do this because they had the money, the job or the determination to see these places and meet those people.
The majority of us, though, were pretty constrained to life at home, experiencing world-wide adventures only through the pages of a book.
Boy, how times have changed! Now the Average Joe can have Facebook friends from around the globe. On Facebook people can instant message, talk through the computer’s VoIP, and even video chat with anyone, anywhere. Isn’t technology something?
One thing that I find pretty cool about this form of social media is how inspiring it can be in regards to healthy living. I can’t tell you how many times an inspirational story or quote that popped up in my notifications box has resulted in uplifting my mood, motivating me to work out, or inspiring me to keep working at building my business.
The effect of these pages is so strong that I’m moved to share with you my picks for the top 8 Facebook health pages.
Inspiration, Motivation and Information: 8 Facebook Health Pages to Like
In August, I shared with you 6 amazing health blogs. My goal in sharing these with you is that I want you to feel the same excitement for life and health that I do, and I want to pay homage to the people behind these blogs and pages. These people are Rock Stars and need to be praised for the fantastic job they’re doing in the healthy living movement.
1. Juicing Vegetables
Drew Canole is a guy after my own heart – we both love juicing vegetables! Drew is really enthusiastic, but totally real, too. Besides the awesome recipes and tips, Drew posts videos that are really engaging. You’ll learn how to make juice to lose weight, improve the look of your skin, or give you a kick of energy.
2. Joe Cross: Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead
Joe Cross is one of the new millennium’s juicing pioneers. With is documentary film Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Cross motivated every day people to take control of their health with green juice. His Facebook page offers a ton of juice recipes, as well as tips from his super popular Reboot program.
3. Kris Carr
Is it just me or is the fact that Kris Carr refers to herself as a cancer “thriver” instead of a cancer “survivor” pretty cool? After being diagnosed in 2003 with a rare Stage IV cancer that affected her lungs and her liver, Carr took total control of her health. She shared her story of survival in a documentary called Crazy Sexy Cancer and continues to inspire others to this day with books, her blog, speaking engagements and, of course, her Facebook page. Carr focuses on a plant-based diet, fresh air, sunshine, happiness, gentle exercise and positive thoughts.
Greatist celebrates healthy living, however you choose to define that. Greatist has found wild success in the last few years largely due to a pretty simple formula: Writing some of the best health information and advice pieces on the internet.
5. Thug Kitchen
If you are averse to coarse language, I recommend you stay away from Thug Kitchen. (If you embrace coarse language, you’ll love it.) TK’s feed will make you laugh and inspire you to verbally abuse yourself into eating better.
I can't wait to get the new cookbook!
6. Natural News
You know how I feel about GMOs, right? GMOs, chemicals, food colorings – all that horrible stuff that’s been allowed into our foods – I hate them. They’re destroying our health, and to back up that claim I offer you Natural News’ Facebook page. This is a great source for health tips, as well as independent news stories about hot topics like GMOs.
7. Forks Over Knives
This page encourages followers to make healthier choices that include real, whole, plant-based foods. There are healthy recipes that you can use to replace any junk food you’re having a hard time letting go of, like the Apple-Walnut Breakfast Bread - Plant-Based recipe posted on September 13, 2016. Yum!
According to their About Page, they’re mission is to empower and inspire people by spreading knowledge of self development and life changing stories to the world. For instance, this quote they posted recently: “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.”— Jim Rohn.”
We could use more sayings like that in our daily life, don’t you think?
